From one man and a Mac to a global operation, 2014 sees Precedent mark 25 years in the digital industry.
We are very proud how far we have come from our humble beginnings and thought it would be nice to chart some of the key moments in our history.
We hope you enjoy browsing our timeline, having a chuckle at far younger versions of some of our key team members, hopefully being as surprised as we were at some of the milestones along the way.
Here’s a few key moments to get you started:
1989 – Paul realises that Macs will change the world of publishing and that digital will transform the way we do business. He leaves Wolff Olins and goes it alone in Shoreditch.
1990 – We build the first CD-ROM based identity manuals in a joint venture with Monotype and the Precedent name is born
1995 – We go online with Precedent.co.uk designed and built by yours truly – unfortunately the internet never forgets! http://bit.ly/1mIBSfp
1997 – its all hands on deck to build BBC Radio 1's first ever website in just under 2 weeks
1998 – Hardip joins and we proceed to build a vast swathe of the Shell Wide Web
2000 – We collaborate with MTV and create the first ever online download music chart – MTV Undiscovered
2000 – A busy year as we also launch thetube.com the London Underground's first home online
2001 – We create ExpertGardener.com with Alan Titmarsh and Charlie Dimmock
2002 – Tim joins the team as part of our acquisition of Pinnacle Internet one of the UK’s first B2B ISPs
2003 – Interactive Bureau and Porter Research join the team with Adrian bringing strategic research capability and David more years creative experience than we’d dare mention
2007 – Jenni heads to Cardiff with newly appointed Operations Director Neil to open our first regional studio
2009 – Sean heads down under and starts our Aussie adventure
2013 – Paul - busy as ever - heads to Hong Kong to forge a new chapter in Asia
2014 – Tori joins as Global Creative Director to take our creative output to a whole new level
One of the things I'd like you to realise when looking at all of this is what a huge team effort it has been. There are so many special people past and present that have been part of the Precedent family, totally committed to helping our clients be more successful and along the way enabling Precedent to flourish.
It’s not often you get the opportunity to stop and reflect on what’s been achieved.
I for one am grateful as things sometimes happen so fast you simply forget how far you have come.
I hope you enjoy exploring our history as much as we enjoyed creating it!
